Ruby Robinson:

Choosing enjoyable and interesting subjects was a must for Ruby, who is focussing on community and child studies in her final year.

The student hopes to travel the world after completing Year 12 and wants to backpack around Europe before starting an administration job.

“I am good at it and enjoy office work so I am looking at doing something like that in the future,” Ruby said.

“Until then I am looking forward to travelling and gaining some life experience.”

Ruby said she has found Year 12 relatively easy so far and has not felt as much pressure as she did in Year 11.

“I am expecting it to happen, but so far it has been pretty easy,” she said.

“I don’t really have many expectations for this year, but I am planning on just taking it as it comes.”

Joel Virtanen:

With an apprenticeship in building and construction in sight, university is not on Joel’s to do list.

After high school, Joel hopes to gain work in the trades industry and become a leader in the community.

With a subject list comprising of maths, English, tech and community studies – including a leadership program – Joel said he is enjoying Year 12 so far.

“I want to become a leader within the community and with the sports leadership program, I am hoping that will help me,” Joel said.

“I am very hands on so university is not my thing and the first couple of weeks of Year 12 have been quite good so far.”

Jacob Robbie:

Year 12 student Jacob hopes to enter the workforce as a cabinet maker after he finishes his final year of secondary school.

Searching for an apprenticeship in the industry, Jacob said he already works alongside qualified cabinet makers and thoroughly enjoys the job.

“I was never interested in going to university or anything like that,” Jacob said.

“Throughout the year I just want to get my work done and focus on my subjects.”

Jacob is currently studying maths, English, tech and is also undertaking a sports leadership course.

He expects the workload to get more challenging as the year progresses, but plans to use his study time wisely to stay on top of homework.
