MOUNT Gambier is set to be dazzled with retro colours in the lead up the highly-anticipated Fringe Festival, which will deliver a spectacular community event next month.

With the massive event just four weeks from “lift-off”, businesses are being urged to prepare for the city’s largest cultural arts street festival.

Organisers urge businesses to be creative and add splashes of colour and creativity ahead of the event, which have a throwback 1980s theme.

Last year’s Fringe festival attracted a whopping 16,000-plus people to its smorgasbord of events.

Businesses are urged to add in a splash of pink and yellow alongside the traditional blue for their shopfront windows.

With shop owners known for their creativity and individuality, Fringe committee member Talie Teakle yesterday encouraged businesses to register for this year’s competition.

The committee hopes to triple entries for the popular competition.

“Businesses getting involved in FringeUp adds such a great element to the Fringe Mount Gambier Festival,” Ms Teakle said.

“There is such a buzz in the air when you see blue stars and crazy Fringe decor throughout the city with the more people getting involved the more the excitement builds for the event.”

Ms Teakle said the committee hoped businesses would embrace the retro futuristic theme by adding fluorescent bright colours to the iconic blue stars.

“Maybe some Metallica, roller-skates, colourful street art, boom boxes, robots and rocketships are just some of the ideas the committee is hoping to see,” she said.

“It is all about creating fun and excitement towards the arts and getting a bit crazy for Fringe.”

Registrations are to be made with coordinator Natasha Little with the site to be on display by March.

Those who register will go in the running to win a double pass to Louise Adam’s Fringe event Unplugged at Wehl as well as a four pack of limited edition reusable Fringe 2020 tumblers.

The winner will be announced March 20 at the Fringe Lift-Off street party and the top three entries will be displayed on the big screen during FringeLand on March 21.
