Country Fire Service history ‘immortalised in print’

BOOK LAUNCH: Naracoorte’s Rex Hall has released his fourth book based on the history of the Country Fire Service and the new South Australian Volunteer Fire Fighters Museum.Country

THE history of the Country Fire Service (CFS) has been immortalised in print thanks to Naracoorte’s Rex Hall.

Launching his fourth book during the opening of the South Australian Volunteer Fire Fighters Museum over the weekend, Mr Hall said the concept developed during the 20-year research project.

The book documents the history of the CFS and key people who led it, while also highlighting the development of the museum over the two decades.

“There was a lot of interest in the books and we did sell quite a significant number of copies on the day,” Mr Hall said.

“There are very few CFS historians and as the memorial and the museum followed, we had a lot of photographs which we could put into the book.

“It is a record of the service and where we are at now.”

Mr Hall said publishing costs had been met for the book, allowing all profits to be directed towards management of the newly-opened museum.

“All comments received on the opening day were overwhelmingly positive,” he said.

“The museum and the book will keep the CFS alive and help the future generations learn about its history.”
