THE leadership of three Millicent churches has changed in the opening weeks of 2020.

Captain Judy Shaw has become the new Salvation Army corps officer for Millicent and Mount Gambier.

She succeeds Major Pam Marshall who spent two years in the role.

Affectionately known as the Salvos, the evangelical Christian denomination has had a continuous presence in Millicent since the 1880s.

Meanwhile, Father Saminathan Arockiasamy has come to the Limestone Coast from India for ministry in the Catholic parishes of Mount Gambier and Millicent.

He will support parish priest Father Dean Marin with additional masses earmarked at Catholic churches across the region.

The third ministry change is the appointment of Father Lyndon Sulzberger as the priest in charge of the Anglican Pastoral District of Millicent and Penola.

The position has been vacant for more than a year since Father John Thompson retired.

Father Lyndon previously served the church at parishes in Adelaide, Sydney and rural South Australia.

Yet another change in local church ranks has been the election of Pastor Shaun Mulick as president of the Millicent Combined Churches Association.

Pastor Shaun arrived here in December as the new senior pastor of the Millicent Community Church.

It is a role he shares with his wife Christie.

Pastor Shaun said the combined association sponsors events including the monthly men’s breakfasts and the joint services hosted by various churches whenever there is a fifth Sunday in the month.

“In association with the Schools Ministry Group, we also provide oversight and some financial support for the school chaplains at Newbery Park, Kalangadoo and Millicent High,” Pastor Shaun said.

The Millicent Community Church is also undertaking a number of ecumenical outreach activities including prayer meetings, community breakfasts and a youth drop-in hub.
