A MAJOR Millicent industrial site has recently changed hands and been purchased by local interests.
Grain handler Viterra has sold its towering silos in Aberle Street.
Built around 40 years ago, the site has a weighbridge and two cells with a capacity of 6000 tonnes.
Viterra spokesperson Candy Brewer said the company’s other Millicent silos on Saleyards Road remain listed for sale through an agent.
“Viterra listed its Millicent sites for sale as we determined they will not play a future role in the Viterra network,” Ms Brewer said.
“The decision reflected the changing environment in the region and declining receivals into the sites over an extended period.”
Dating back to the 1990s, the larger Saleyards Road site sits on 35 hectares and consists of silos and bunkers.
The two sites were established by the farmer-owned cooperative South Australian Cooperative Bulk Handling.
Ownership of silos across South Australia later changed to ABB Limited and then to Canadian firm Viterra.
Although Viterra was bought out by Swiss company Glencore in 2012, the trading name remains.
There has already been one major sale of industrial premises in Aberle Street in recent times.
A manufacturing, agricultural supplies and advisory business has recently moved there from Beachport and is now based in the long closed oilseed crusher building alongside the Viterra silos.
