ANOTHER achievement has recently come the way of Rendelsham resident Brandon Kimber with a further promotion within the ranks of the Australian Army Cadets.

As State Brigade Cadet Under Officer, he is now the top-ranked cadet in South Australia and looks after every cadet unit in the state.

Last month, Mr Kimber was the recipient of the 2020 Australia Day Kintore Ward Young Citizen of the Year Award.

“When I heard that I was going to be receiving the promotion I was very excited to see what the position would be like and what challenges lay ahead,” Mr Kimber said.

“I had all my cadet uniforms and equipment packed up ready to return, but now I look forward to unpacking it.

“I’m looking forward to being able to mentor the ranks below me and to pass on my knowledge and experiences on to both senior and junior cadets.

“I’m also excited about working with the cadet staff, to plan exercises and activities and make sure training is mirrored across the state and modern.

“In conjunction with the Battalion and Unit Cadet leaders, I believe that we can plan great activities for the cadets this year.”

Commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Brad Erickson commended Mr Kimber on his promotion.

He said the senior cadet appointments were prestigious leadership appointments with significant responsibilities.

“In their new roles the team will have a critical role in providing leadership, guidance and mentoring for all cadets,” Col. Erickson said.

“In addition, they will have the opportunity to represent the views of over 650 young Australians engaged in the South Australian Cadet program as well as the chain of command.

“They will be the most important ambassadors for our program through representative duties which will include engagement with senior leaders in our communities.

“Everyone involved in the Australian Army Cadet program should take a level of pride and satisfaction from the very high-quality young people our program is developing.

“Selection for a senior appointment is an outstanding achievement and the families, friends, units and the communities should be immensely proud of the selected cadets.”

Now aged 18, Mr Kimber has had extensive involvement as an Australian Army Cadet for seven years.

He is highly involved in the Catafalque Party for the Millicent Anzac Day services and also led a group on Remembrance and Anzac days at St. Martin’s Lutheran College in Mount Gambier.

Last year, Mr Kimber was awarded the South Australian Army Cadet Commander’s Gold Commendation for being the student of merit on the Cadet Under Officer/Warrant Officer’s promotion course.

Mr Kimber completed Year 12 in 2019 and is currently having a gap year while working part-time before applying for a place in the Australian Regular Army at the Royal Military College, Duntroon.
