MOUNT Gambier’s Farmers Market will get a bit sweeter tomorrow as the city’s Biggest Bake Sale raises funds for Kangaroo Island bushfire relief.
A collection of Limestone Coast food creatives will combine their culinary delights in support of the Kangaroo Island Mayoral Relief Fund and Kangaroo Island Wildlife Fund.
Household names such as Just Frank, Scroll Queen and Moments to Savour will be joined by Cooper and Co, Best Taste Scenario, Cake Me Cakes by Crystal, Wee Bites, Cake Expectations, Picnics in the Woods and Melissa’s Magic Kitchen.
The concept was cooked up by Moments to Savour’s Sally Beck in a bid to support the fire-ravaged community, with a number of enterprises jumping on board.
“A lot of the money is going towards the eastern coast and I knew with my baking background that I wanted to do something baking wise so I put the call out around the region,” Ms Beck said.
“There will be scrolls, cupcakes, melting moments, slices, picnic boxes and fresh cream products,” she said.
“It is not very common for this amount of bakers to all get together and do something like this but everyone has been amazing so far with their ideas and connections.”
The bake sale will occupy three marquees at the Farmers Market, combining the best baked goods from the region.
“We asked if anyone in the local community would like to donate ingredients and we got a fantastic response from that as well,” Ms Beck said.
Wee Bites will also host cookie painting activities for children.
“Doing this has really brought us all together from a baking perspective,” Ms Beck said.
“It really opens doors for the future for us all to possibly collaborate.”
The fundraiser will be held at the Mount Gambier Farmers Market from 9am to 12pm tomorrow.
