Fun day for fire funds

Funds For Firies Committweb TBW Newsgroup
COMMUNITY FUN: The Funds for our Firies Family Fun Day committee Ben Deering, Tamara Seeley, Ben Hood, Di Ind, Aaron Davis and Don Pratt look forward to the weekends event.

A FAMILY fun day will be held in the heart of Mount Gambier on Sunday to raise funds for bushfire-affected communities.

The inaugural Funds for our Firies Family Fun Day will provide free entertainment at the Cave Gardens while raising funds for the Country Fire Service Foundation, Red Cross Disaster Relief and Stand Like Stone Foundation Disaster Relief sub fund.

A small committee has spent a whirlwind few weeks piecing the major community event together, now calling on the public to show support for the worthy cause.

Louise Adams, the Fat Tractor band and Matt James are among the entertainment drawcards, while a live performance by George The Farmer is part of the children’s entertainment.

A unique basketball-themed fundraiser will also pit Limestone Coast celebrities against one another in a shoot-off, with each successful basket resulting in a $100 donation.

A portion of the proceeds from food and drink sales will also be donated with a licenced bar on-site.

Committee member Tamara Seeley said the event concept started after she viewed devastating images of fire-affected areas on social media.

“I put a post out on social media because I was shocked at the bushfires,” Ms Seeley said.

“I wanted to help and I know how good our community is at giving back.

“I have had so many people put their hand up to help and we have so much going on.

“Although the event is free, there will be tins for people to help out and there will also be fun games to help raise money.”

Ms Seeley praised the work of volunteers who have driven the concept.

“Although it has been hard over the past few weeks it is our volunteers who have really made this happen,” Ms Seeley said.

“It has been a lot of work but it will be worth it in the end.

“The Limestone Coast is so generous and are always able to raise a significant amount of money for a good cause.”

The Funds for our Firies Family Fun Day will be held Sunday at the Cave Gardens from 11am until 7pm.

Organisers will also hold a raffle with over $4000 in prizes available.

Raffle tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Chapman’s Newsagency, Jens Hotel, Metro Bakery and Cafe, Ray White Mount Gambier or at the Cave Gardens on Sunday.
