Virus testing details kept quiet

PRAISED: Mount Gambier Hospital has received positive feedback from a patient's family.

THE state’s health authority says it will not reveal whether any patients at Mount Gambier Hospital have been tested for the deadly coronavirus.

Seven people across the state are awaiting test results for novel coronavirus.

According to the Department of Health and Wellbeing, the likelihood that these seven people have the condition remains low.

A further three who have been tested recently have had their results come back negative.

This takes the total number of South Australians who have had tests for novel coronavirus to 10 individuals.

The Border Watch late yesterday requested information from health officials whether one patient at Mount Gambier Hospital had been tested for the virus.

The outbreak of the deadly disease has so far claimed more than 120 lives and infected more than 4000 people in China.

“All of the people under investigation are being managed using standard infection control protocols and we will not be disclosing further details for privacy reasons,” the statement said.

“We continue to work closely with the Commonwealth Department of Health and Health Departments in all jurisdictions, as well as local GPs, to monitor the situation closely and provide support as required.

People who have travelled to mainland China, and especially Hubei Province, in the past 14 days and have a fever and respiratory symptoms such as cough, trouble breathing, fatigue, sore throat, and nausea/vomiting are urged to visit their doctor.
