MORE than 130 unique vehicles took part in the Limestone Coast Unique Car Spotting Charity Run recently, raising money for two worthwhile causes.

Motorists and passengers travelled from Mount Gambier to Beachport, raising $6000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the Kangaroo Island Bushfire Relief and Recovery Fund.

Around 220 people participated in the charity cruise, which finished with a barbecue lunch at the Beachport Bowls Club.

Initially the total tally reached $3000, but was matched dollar for dollar by an anonymous donor.

Following this year’s success, organiser Josh Young said the charity cruise would be an annual event.

“The weekend went really well and we were overwhelmed by what has happened,” Mr Young said.

“More people than expected came along and it was a great response by the community.

“We called Kangaroo Island and told them what we are planning and they were very happy.”

“The two charities we chose this year were popular choices by everyone who came along on the day and we had great comments about them too.”

Mount Gambier Royal Flying Doctors support group member Bill Margie applauded the initiative.

“It is a fantastic effort from those involved and the timing is great,” he said.

“Everyone is worried about the fires and rightly so but it is great the Royal Flying Doctor Service is still held in high regard among the community.”
