SOME “gems” were located when a Millicent group completed a yearly check of its possessions.

With South East Family History Group president Noel Boyle and librarian Sandra Edlington at the helm, volunteers checked over the group’s large collection of books, CDs, microfiche, microfilm, newspapers, maps, photographs and indexes.

Mr Boyle said the annual check gave members the opportunity to become acquainted with what is in the collection.

“Different members are given different sections to check,” Mr Boyle said.

“You sometimes forget what we have in the collection.

“We are also cataloguing some of our recent acquisitions.

“The South East Family History Group now has the story of the Cheeseman family from 1839 to 1999 and it came from Rendelsham resident Sandy Stewart.”

He said the group would resume its twice-weekly open research sessions at the end of the festive season.

“We still have our working bees at the old portion of the Millicent cemetery on the first Sunday of each month, he said.

“Our first guest speaker for the year on February 27 will be Millicent resident Tammy Walker who has recently walked the Kokoda Trail in New Guinea.
