Original recipe given modern twist

Kentucky Fried Chicken Mt Gambier New Store TBW Newsgroup
FINGER-LICKIN’ GOOD: Ashlyn O’Hehir serves up a meal ordered through Kentucky Fried Chicken’s first digital drive-through restaurant in South Australia – the second in the world – which opens today at the Mount Gambier Marketplace site.

AN ORIGINAL recipe will be spiced up today when KFC opens South Australia’s first digital drive-through restaurant in Mount Gambier.

The second of its kind in the world, the new-age dining experience will be the Blue Lake city’s second KFC site, creating over 50 new jobs.

Located at the Mount Gambier Marketplace, the modern fast-food outlet continues the company’s trend of using Australia as a test-bed for global technology and innovation.

KFC launched its first site in Newcastle late last year, with the new Mount Gambier storefront boasting four drive-through points as well as an internal kiosk for walk-up orders.

With 28 years of experience, the store will be operated by long-standing KFC franchisee partners David and Marie Bird.

Mr Bird said they were excited to open the doors to the cutting-edge restaurant.

“We have a great local team who are excited for today’s opening of KFC’s latest restaurant in Mount Gambier,” he said.

“With over 50 new jobs being made, we are excited to be providing the new team with the training and skills that come with working within the KFC family.”

INNOVATION AND NEW: Mount Gambier has become part of South Australian history today with the launch of a Drive Thru Only KFC located at the Mount Gambier Marketplace.

Embracing changes in technology, the store will allow customers to order and pay for their meal through the KFC app or website before arriving, streamlining the service.

Two drive-through lanes will be dedicated to the traditional drive-through order options while two will operate as online pick-up lanes.

The walk-up kiosk is open from 10am to 5.30pm daily.

KFC Australia chief development officer Inara Gravitis said the launch was an exciting moment in KFC’s digital journey.

“We are continually looking for ways to offer our customers even faster and more convenient ordering,” she said.

“David is a long-standing franchisee partner and we are thrilled to not only support him on opening, but to also bring innovative new technologies into the local community.

“Given the capabilities of this tech-powered restaurant, local team members will have the opportunity to gain new skills that are not available in standard restaurants.”

Ms Gravitis said since the KFC app was launched in 2013, it has been downloaded more than 1.3 million times.

The Mount Gambier store will open its lanes today from 10am.
