AT THE MOVIES: Southern Ocean Tourist Park co-manager Heidi Prouse and master of ceremonies Ben Treloar hailed the success of Sherlock Gnomes.

THE screening of a movie on a giant screen at the Beachport on Thursday night led to $2445 in donations for bushfire relief efforts.

The animated film Sherlock Gnomes appealed to all ages and was an initiative of the town’s two caravan parks, Wattle Range Council, Beachport District Development Association and Screenshot.

Profits from the sale of snacks, popcorn and drinks were also donated.

Southern Ocean Tourist Park co-manager Heidi Prouse was one of the organisers and said the sponsors met all staging costs.

“This meant all donations could go to the appeal,” Ms Prouse said.

“Weather wise it was perfect and we had a crowd of 200.”

Meanwhile, holiday makers at Beachport also opened their purses and wallets and donated $2497 to bushfire relief on Friday night.

The Beachport Country Fire Service (CFS) truck passed through both caravan parks from 6pm and volunteer fire-fighters Jesse Judd, Bob Grieve and Gordon Sargeant accepted donations for the appeal in a bucket.

Beachport CFS captain Sean Uotila was at the wheel while Southern Ocean Tourist Park co-manager Heidi Prouse sat alongside him.
