THE call has gone out to the Millicent community for surplus tools which can be donated to bushfire victims.
The Lions Club of Millicent is participating in the tool collection with kindred clubs across the nation during the month of January.
Tools can be delivered to the Millicent Banner Mitre 10 store in Kentish Place.
Spades, shovels, rakes and axes which can be used for fire clean-up are most valued.
The store will accept cash donations for the purchase of needed items.
The appeal has special significance for Stewie Pounsett who is both a Millicent Lions Club member and a Millicent Banner Mitre 10 staff member.
Mr Pounsett said the donated tools and equipment will help the bushfire victims start their recovery while waiting for further support.
He said the donations would be distributed by Lions Clubs in the fire-affected communities.
“We already have had donations in the opening days of the appeal,” Mr Pounsett said.
Meanwhile, the Australian Lions Foundation is also asking for Australia’s help in supporting communities affected by the bushfires.
When disaster strikes, the Australian Lions Foundation is amongst the first to offer relief.
A network of over 1300 local Lions clubs across Australia ensures that support is transported quickly to those who need it most in times of crisis.
Every dollar donated to Australian Lions Foundation proudly goes directly to those in need and donations are tax deductable.
The Millicent Lions Club has already donated $5000 to the Foundation.
