A HIDDEN gem in Worrolong has staked its claim as a must-see festive display, with an influx of traffic expected tonight on the typically quiet Kavanagh Road ahead of Christmas Day.
Worrolong resident Shirley Price is among hundreds of Limestone Coast residents who have dived tinsel-first into the Christmas spirit with a display of over 18,000 lights spread across her rural property.
Now in her eighth year of decorating, Ms Price said it brought joy to her and her family.
“People do come out here and have a look because over the years word of mouth has gotten around,” Ms Price said.
“We are encouraging those who love Christmas lights to not forget about those around the outer areas.
“We have people come down the driveway to have a better look and people are also more than welcome to come around and have a chat.
“Some people come out each year to have a look and it gives us a chance to have a good catch up about what the year has brought.”
Ms Price said an increasing number of people visited the property nightly to take in the display.
“People who do come out and have a look usually comment on how they cannot believe just how big they are,” she said.
“They love telling everyone to come out and have a look and the children just adore it.
“We used to have a bus full of children who would come down from Penola to have a look and they would fight over who would be able to get out of the bus first.”
The job of disassembling the display is equally as challenging according to Ms Price, who carefully labels each piece to make the next festive season easier.
“It just keeps getting bigger and bigger each year,” she said.
“We keep saying that this will be the last year but it never is.”
Ms Price said the display will be viewable nightly until midnight before disassembly in early January.
