THE Port MacDonnell Men’s Shed is continuing to foster community connectivity for men in the district.
Whether it is carving woodwork projects, playing cards or enjoying a coffee, the men’s shed oozes mateship.
Always looking for new ideas and experimenting with various local and interstate timbers, the group has embarked on a new initiative.
Participants are making toggles for craypots that recreational and professional fisherman can purchase.
Available to purchase at $1, each one is made by hand at the Port MacDonnell site.
Toggles are used by fisherman to secure the bait basket inside the pot.
The Men’s Shed is also selling bags of kindling, which is a popular enterprise that nets the group $3000 per year and costs $9 per bag.
Items made by the Men’s Shed are sold at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex, the Port MacDonnell General Store and the Men’s Shed directly on Elizabeth Street.
All funds raised go back into community projects as well as providing upgrades to tools and facilities for members.
Moreover, the group has also restored a derelict billiard table to be used for social activities.
Each member has had some involvement in the restoration process in recent months to produce a beautiful and high quality result.
Men’s Sheds are amazing places for mateship, socialisation and creativity.
In 2013 beyondblue released a report into the positive and powerful effect Men’s Sheds have on the physical and mental wellbeing of members.
The Port MacDonnell Men’s Shed – open Tuesdays and Thursdays – is located at Elizabeth Street, Port MacDonnell.
