Limestone Coast students countdown tertiary results release

Sophie Charlton TBW Newsgroup
NERVOUSLY WAITING: Mount Gambier High School Year 12 student Sophie Charlton will be one of many waiting to find out her Australian Tertiary Admission Rank when results are released from 8.30am on Tuesday.

THE days are ticking down for Limestone Coast Year 12 students eagerly awaiting their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank results, with the Education Department releasing the final gradings on Tuesday morning.

Among those eager to receive their ATAR result is Mount Gambier High School’s Sophie Charlton, who is hoping to achieve 90 or above.

While aiming high, Ms Charlton said the result would not define her future.

“You can do many other things to get to where you want without your end of year result,” she said.

“My year level involved a pretty smart group, so I would say we will all do pretty well.”

Mount Gambier High School senior school assistant principal Samantha Brown reminded parents and carers to remain calm following the release of results.

“We know, the young people will panic if they do not get the results they want,” Ms Brown said.

“If parents have any concern about results, we encourage them to contact the school.

“Although, we urge to remind students there are many alternative options to get to where they want to go.”

Ms Brown said most students coped well until crunch time and when they realised they had not done the work.

“You have students which rise to the challenge and start looking for those alternative options,” she said.

“Students know their abilities as well as their limitations especially getting to end of the year.

“Students will be as successful as the efforts they put in.”

Ms Brown said students had a variety of pathways open to them after school.

“You will have the high achievers as well as those who do not go so well but have managed to pull through better than they thought,” she said.

“At the end of the day, it is not only about academics, but also if they use some of the skills along to way to contribute to society.

“Completing their South Australian Certificate of Education is important, but we have students who are more than capable who undergo a VET or TAFE qualification and then go onto further study from there.”

Awaiting her results, Ms Charlton said she hoped to study business marketing.

“Honestly I thought Year 12 was going to be a lot harder,” she said.

“At the end of last year, I thought I was not going to be ready for it.

“Teachers were pretty lenient and they knew how much we had on our plates.”

Students will be able to access their Year 12 SACE results online on Tuesday from 8.30am through the SACE online portal.
