THE sound of carols and glow of candles will be beamed live from the heart of Mount Gambier across the region and beyond as the annual Blue Lake Carols expands its reach.
An estimated 6000 people are expected to flock to the Mount Gambier Railway Lands for the annual festive fixture, which will also be livestreamed using social media.
For the second year in a row, the crowd will be filled with the “community choir”, a group of young children identifiable by their blue Santa hats, who will sing along with carols throughout the night and encourage further crowd participation.
Event organiser Rudy Furlong said the addition of livestreaming would expand the event’s reach.
“We hope to get as many community members as possible down to The Rail on the night,” he said.
“The livestream on Facebook will be very handy for those who might not be able to make it, such as the elderly or parents with young babies.
“It will make the entire event even more inclusive and spread the Christmas spirit throughout the community.”
A cast of “thousands” will entertain the crowd throughout the night with acts such as Louise Adams, the Phoenix Choir, Scott Maxwell and Alison Newman taking the stage.
In addition to Mr Furlong, the Blue Lake Carols organising team consists of Danni Reade, Simon Fisher, Hannah Morrison, Monica Hart and Peter and Simone Loring.
“The event could not come together without the acts, the food vendors and the wonderful team behind the scenes,” Mr Furlong said.
“You are only as good as the team around you and I am grateful to have them all on board.”
Other attractions on the night include a face painting station and a jumping castle.
The event will start from 7.30pm on Sunday, but patrons are encouraged to get settled at The Rail early to find a perfect spot.
People taking are asked to set up at the back of the seating area to give people on sitting on the ground a clear view of the stage.
The livestream will be hosted on the Blue Lake Carols Facebook page.
