A FRESHEN up before Christmas has resulted in one Mount Gambier resident receiving a $500 bank boost.

Donna Poel booked a last minute haircut at James Gray Salon last week and walked away with a nice surprise after her trim.

Ms Poel was drawn as one of two weekly winners in the Bendigo Community Bank $8000 Christmas Cracker competition, winning a $500 bank account with the financial institution.

Ms Poel said the cash was the perfect present ahead of Christmas.

“I have not started buying any presents yet,” she said.

“So this will take care of that for me.

“It was such a nice surprise to find out I won and I am very grateful.”

James Gray business owner Marika Dowdell said she was confident a client would be one of the giveaway’s winners.

“I knew we would have a winner at the salon,” she said.

“I even said it last week when Donna came in for her appointment.

“I just had a really good feeling about it.”

With the competition centred around spending money locally, Ms Poel said her family’s Christmas presents would be purchased in the central business district.

“I think it is really important to always shop locally,” she said.

“The money will be going straight back in the community.

“We have to support local businesses because they are local families and as a community we need to support each other.”

A total of 12 winners have already been announced for the competition, with the final four winners drawn next week.
