Grant Hotel Upgraded Rooms2web TBW Newsgroup
IN USE AGAIN: Grand Hotel Social Club member Sonya Chant and acting manager Leandra Worrell were joined by visitors Marg Chapple and Erica Klements in one of the rooms renovated by the $50,000 grant from AirBnB.

ONE of Millicent’s most iconic buildings has reopened its accommodation doors after major renovation works.

The Grand Hotel has stood at the intersection of George and Glen streets since 1900, but has not provided accommodation for many years.

Following part-funding from AirBnB, the 12 upstairs bedrooms and associated facilities have been upgraded and can be used again.

The rooms were used for the first time last month for participants in the annual Great Victorian Bike Ride.

Guests have access to a common room along with the balcony on its southern and western flanks.

Acting manager Leandra Worrell said there was backpacker accommodation on offer along with rooms with single, twin and queen beds.

She said tradies had upgraded facilities, while other tasks had been done by the hotel’s eight employees.

“The staff all rallied around and some even came in on their days off to help,” Ms Worrell said.

“We cleaned and assembled furniture and bought new linen.

“The bookings are starting to come in and we are totally booked out for the geocache event in Millicent next Easter.”

The opening of the accommodation section has been a morale-booster for the staff as the Grand Hotel had to briefly close its doors in early November due to management changes.

The upgraded facilities were opened for inspection recently, attracting 50 people.
