CHRISTMAS CAMPAIGN: Share the Dignity volunteers Erin Beggs and Danielle Leckie drop off a handbag of essential items to Bunnings Mount Gambier team member Grace Davis.

THE Share the Dignity Campaign is taking place again with community members encouraged to fill a handbag with a Christmas gift for women and girls in need.

As the holiday season quickly approaches, the charity organisation is encouraging individuals and businesses to participate and help women experiencing homelessness, sleeping rough or seeking refuge in domestic violence shelters.

This year’s appeal is the charity’s fifth Christmas campaign and volunteer Erin Beggs hopes for the biggest response to date.

“We want to give women and girls doing it tough over the holiday period a reason to smile and feel cared for, as well as restoring some of their dignity by providing them with handbags filled with essential hygiene products, as well as a few extra little treats,” she said.

“We have been blown away by the support this collection receives each and every year and we’d love the community’s support to show these women and girls they are in our thoughts this Christmas.”

Individuals who donate bags are encouraged to write a thoughtful note to show those doing it tough someone cares.

The campaign starts today and will run until December 7, with bags to be dropped off at Bunnings.

Share the Dignity volunteers will then collect the donated bags and distribute to shelters and charities ensuring these lovingly prepared bags are available for women and girls in time for Christmas.
