PENOLA’S recent cool weather has not dampened the enthusiasm of the town’s swim club, which officially opens its season on Monday, November 4.
The club is keen to attract swimmers who may have previously delayed participating due to the cold water, thanks to the installation of a heating facility for the Penola community swimming pool late last year.
The Penola Swim Club offers swim training, programs and supervision two evenings each week for aged and ability-based levels of swimmers – those aged eight and under, plus nine and up.
Club members can access benefits including designated pool lanes, trainer-led dry-land warm up sessions, tailored swimming plans, access to quality coaching and the opportunity to attend a range of swimming carnivals across the Limestone Coast.
According to president Stuart Sharman, the Penola Swim Club offers one of the best value sporting memberships in the Limestone Coast.
“In terms of membership numbers and the number of offerings, we believe the Penola Swim Club punches well above its weight,” Sharman said.
“As a family friendly club – achieving StarClub accreditation in 2016 – we are planning to offer over 40 training evenings throughout the season, with access to a high calibre of coaching staff and dedicated training programs.”
The club will offer two free, come and try sessions on Monday, November 4 and Wednesday, November 6 at 5.15-6pm for those looking to join for the first time.
The club has secured the services of Luke Trotter as the officially registered ‘Teacher of Competitive Strokes’, who will take the two sessions each week.
“Having a ‘Teacher of Competitive Strokes’ registered is a mandatory requirement for the club to be part of the Swimming SA and we are thrilled Luke has agreed to this role,” Sharman said.
“Luke brings years of competitive swimming experience to the pool deck and we know the swimmers will gain a lot.”
Swim carnivals are held throughout the Limestone Coast over the five-month swim season, including two hosted by Penola.
Details on how to register for the club will be available at the pool on the first two training nights and must be submitted by November 11.
The regions’ first carnival will be held on December 2 in Mount Gambier.
