Penola women step out of comfort zone

Coastrek TBW Newsgroup
TREKKING FOR A CAUSE: Penola women Leticia Gosse (back left), Benedetta Rusconi, Lucille Bailey, Katie Moorhouse, Christa Mllarka, Deanne O’Brien, Kirsty Balnaves (front left) and Sophie Angus complete the trek from Victor Harbor to Goolwa to raise funds for Beyond Blue.

EIGHT Penola women recently took on a challenge to walk 30km in a bid to help raise funds for the Beyond Blue Foundation.

The two teams of four women took part in the Coastrek challenge, walking from Victor Harbor to Goolwa.

The teams – named the Limestone Coasters and the Penola Trekkers – raised a combined $6000 for the foundation.

Team member Katie Moorhouse said the challenge was the perfect opportunity to do something enjoyable with friends while raising much needed funds for a cause close to many hearts.

“We have been overwhelmed with support from our many local Penola sponsors and want to thank every one of them,” Ms Moorhouse
said.

“To raise this amount of money from a small town is amazing.

“It was great to support the services of Beyond Blue that is there to help everyone in Australia achieve their best possible mental health, whatever their age and wherever they live including the Limestone Coast.”

This year the state Coastrek event has raised $900,000 for Beyond Blue with a goal of $1m.

Each team pledges to raise $2000 for the organisation and must include at least 50pc women.

Coastek Australia has now raised funds for 12 years with 10,000 women participating annually.
