EACH and every student at Beachport Primary School has contributed artwork to the Blessing of the Fleet on the weekend with the foreshore being brought to life with boats and marine life.
The idea came from Heidi Prouse and Sarah Uotila, who have children at the school, as a way to get the students involved in the event.
“Many of these children have dads that go out on the boats, and it will brighten up the foreshore,” Ms Prouse said.
“We asked the school if they would be interested on getting on board with this project and they kindly agreed.”
Beachport Primary principal Dianne Loveday said each of the year levels participated, and if the children’s family owned a boat then they were tasked with painting it.
“We’ll be inviting parents and grandparents to come down and have a look at the paintings,” Ms Loveday said.
“The paintings will look fantastic once they’re lacquered,” Ms Uotila said.
“We’re hoping that this is a stepping stone towards more art projects like this.”
Ms Prouse and Ms Uotila have given their thanks to John Atkinson who cut the outlines of each individual sea creature.
Beachport’s Blessing of the Fleet is on Sunday September 29 and begins at 12 noon at the jetty.
