PENOLA added a splash of colour to the town over the weekend with the launch of the volunteer-run Pink Up Penola campaign.

The month-long program aims to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for the McGrath Foundation through a busy schedule of events which showcase the benefits of well-being.

More than 110 attendees dressed in pink on Friday night for the official launch of the fundraiser, held at Beach Energy’s office.

In an emotional and empowering speech, committee member Angela Winter spoke about her personal journey with breast cancer and highlighted the importance of the McGrath Foundation.

Ms Winter told the crowd how grateful she felt towards the foundation after the organisation supported both herself and her family during treatment.

Ms Winter is now determined to give back to the foundation.

Speaking about the launch night, Ms Winter said everyone had a fantastic night as many mingled with the great crowd.

“Everyone that was there enjoyed the food, wine and the fashion parade,” she said.

“It has been overwhelming because this is just the tip of the iceberg.

“We have the silent auctions on Facebook and in catalogues and the donations we received for that were fantastic.”

With many events still to come, Ms Winter said the program had been well supported by the community with a number of individuals and organisations embracing the stand-out colour.

“The town is looking great, it is bright, it is cheery and it stands out,” she said.

“We really do wish to thank everyone who has supported us so far.”
