DOZENS of pet-loving people gathered at the Mount Gambier Railway Lands on Sunday for the South East Animal Welfare League’s annual Paws Walk fundraiser.
The popular precinct was inundated as over 100 registered canines took part in the walk, raising around $3000 for the animal welfare organisation.
Funds to support the league’s operational costs were also raised through novelty bone tosses, raffles, a treasure hunt and general donations.
League president Trevor Twilley hailed the day a success.
“The amount raised is outstanding and it is a reflection of the generosity of the community including those who donated for the raffle and the stallholders,” Mr Twilley said.
“The committee put in an incredible amount of time behind the scenes to make the event happen and put in an enormous amount of effort to organise the event.”
Mr Twilley said he considered the day “blessed” with perfect weather, stating the past few years resulted in the walk being post-poned.
“Previously we have had to change to other days because of the weather but this year we were certainly blessed,” he said.
The league recently raised $11,500 from its recent Passion for Paws raffle.
“The amount that we have raised this year is substantial and the top five winners of the Passion for Paws raffle even donated the winnings back to the league,” Mr Twilley said.
“Fundraisers like these reinforce the generosity of the community.”
