Sport success puts Dartmoor on the map

THE individual sporting success of Dartmoor export Jeremy Cameron has helped put the country town on the map, according to Dartmoor Primary School principal Rose Wombwell.

Speaking yesterday ahead of this weekend’s AFL grand final, Ms Wombwell said Jeremy Cameron set no limitations for himself and made the most of what a regional community had to offer.

“All the kids idolise Jeremy and look right up to him,” she said.

“I think the mindset they have now is if Jezza can do it, then we can do it too.

“I could confidently say the leadership qualities developed from attending a smaller school have definitely helped him to be where he is today. ”

Ms Wombwell said the school had produced some exceptionally skilled students over its years.

“We have seen our students become pilots and doctors and now we even have and AFL player,” she said.

“We still use him as an example in our bike education every year when we speak about bicycle safety.

“When he split his leg open from unsafe handlebars, it could have been the end of his career. The story makes children sit up and pay attention. ”

Ms Wombwell said Jeremy never lost his “country-lad” type of personality.

“Whenever he comes to town he will go and have a beer at the pub or will help out where he can in the community,” she said.

“If we ever need anything for a raffle or a helping hand with Auskick he is more than happy to put his hand up.

“He is a man of many talents and even played netball before he played football as it was the type of person he was.”
