SPECIALIST police have been called to Millicent in a bid to find those responsible for the latest spate of graffiti vandalism.

Among the latest structures attacked are fences at the rear of Glen Street shops and the near-century old former railway station in Railway Terrace.

The number of Millicent structures blighted by such vandalism in 2019 now runs into the dozens and has occurred in the CBD as well as residential areas.

Millicent police officer Sergeant Nick Patterson said inquiries were being made by uniformed officers from the Millicent station.

Sgt Patterson said a Mount Gambier police crime scene examiner visited Millicent on Tuesday as part of the investigation.

“Members of the public with information are asked to contact either Millicent police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” Sgt Patterson said.

Millicent Business Community Association chairman Lee Morgan expressed disappointment with the vandalism.

“It is a real shame these people think they are going to get some personal recognition for such a negative behaviour, “Mr Morgan said.

“Maybe they need to reconcile their early childhood and start learning to do some more creative and exhilarating art-work that other people would actually appreciate – something that is longer lasting than childish graffiti.”

“I hate to think what the Great Vic Bike Riders will think if this graffiti wave continues.”
