MILLICENT North Kindergarten students had an exciting Friday the 13th when they explored Millicent North Primary School and met their Year 7 “big buddies.”
Kindergarten staff, parents and caregivers joined the students for the transitional program aimed at familiarising young children with the primary school environment.
The first destination for the kindergarten students was the school library, where they became “little buddies” to the Year 7 students who read a book to them.
Millicent North Kindergarten staff member Donna Barber then read a story to students as parents and caregivers toured the classes and facilities.
Primary school principal Graham Slarks said there was a promising number of children ready to transition to primary school.
“We have the potential for 30 new Reception students which is a nice size as we could have two straight Reception classes of 15 students,” he said.
The third-term transition was organised by Learning Together, which works with all three Millicent primary schools and the two kindergartens.
Millicent North also has its own transition days in Term 4 where parents are invited to learn more about their child’s future learning environment.
