NOW is as perfect time as any to start preparing for December’s Blue Lake Fun Run event, according to avid South East running enthusiast and triathete Wendy Lines.

As an accredited level one recreational running coach, Ms Lines has helped develop three 12-week running programs for anyone preparing to take part in this year’s milestone event.

Ms Lines has specifically designed 3.2km, 6.8km and 10.4km beginner plans to suit the event routes.

“I was encouraged to start my own coaching sessions by a group of people who liked my coaching style,” Ms Lines said.

“I found clients of all different abilities felt satisfied with their sessions.

“These programs include various running strategies including long distance and interval running as well as stretching recommendations, rest days and much more.”

Ms Lines founded the over 400-member social media coaching site Run2Revive Fitness two years ago to help motivate South East residents to live a healthier and move active lifestyle.

Ms Lines said Run2Revive was also a great way to motivate people in preparation for the fun run.

“I do not have much time for coaching since I began my career as a nurse,” she said.

“The social media group encourages people who may be struggling with their fitness or just need a little pick me up to get them going again.

“Many members are from surrounding areas, actively participate in the monthly challenges and share their experiences with exercise.”

Blue Lake Fun Run committee member Andrew Buchalka said preparation was key to success.

“When beginning it is important to not start off by doing too much,” Mr Buchalka said.

He encouraged any starting their fitness journey to make a list of goals.

“I think it is great to have a goal in mind for those who have not done much exercise before,” he said.

“People receive a great satisfaction when they are able to complete the goal they set in mind.”

As a self-proclaimed running enthusiast, Wendy Lines said technique was crucial when beginning to run.

“Once the technique is mastered, you are able to begin to enjoy your run and the environment around you,” she said.

“I would also say, when you do injure yourself it is important you rest before doing any serious damage.

“My own sporting achievements include an ironman triathlon, several half ironman triathlons, numerous fun runs, many marathons, 15 ultra-marathons and a few other endurance events.”

Ms Lines placed second in her respective category last year and plans to run the 10.4km event again this year.

She said anyone tackling the program should consult with their general practitioner first.

Preparation programs are available from the Blue Lake Fun Run website or via the Run2Revive Facebook page.

This year’s 10th anniversary Blue Lake Fun will be held on December 1 with registrations opening September 17.
