MARY MacKillop Memorial School students took audiences on a magical ride through a modern take on the original Aladdin script last week as part of its whole-school play.
The talented school-based cast had been busy preparing for the major Aladdin Trouble event since term one, with the whole student body involved.
The story is told through the eyes of Scheherazade, who launched audiences into a tale of good versus evil, a magical lamb, three wishes, witty banter, buffoonery and love conquering all.
In traditional pantomime style, the script was loaded with bad jokes and comic puns as well as 11 catchy songs.
The well-known play featured a range of characters including the wicked Abanazar, the beautiful Princess Jasmine, the hilarious Widow Twankey and Aladdin and the Genie.
Students prepared for the play by hosting a special performance for Pinchunga Aged Care residents as well as local schools.
The final performance was held last Wednesday, with audiences praising the students for the quality of the performance.
Year 6/7 teacher Kathy O’Connell said the experience allowed students to practice all aspects of their performance including vocal and acting skills.
“Our students have learnt that putting together a performance is a complex process which requires dedicated preparation, practice, teamwork and problem solving,” Ms O’Connell said.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to work collaboratively as a school community with many children and adults offering their skills to assist with costume making, artwork and much more.”
The school undertakes a musical production bi-annually as a part of its performing arts curriculum.
