Cutlery donation to enhance dining experience

READY TO DINE IN STYLE: Coonawarra Soldiers Memorial Hall committee president Bryan Tomkin shows off the new cutlery with Emma, Joy and Doug Bowen.

A FINE fining experience awaits visitors to the Coonawarra Community Club following a donation by a local winemaker.

Bowen Estate winemaker Emma Bowen has donated cutlery to accommodate 120 guests at the volunteer-run club.

Ms Bowen said her family had been part of the club for a while, but had been unable to make it to several recent meetings.

“We thought this was a great way to contribute,” Ms Bowen said.

“The cutlery will allow the community members who use the club’s services to dine comfortably with matching cutlery.

“We believed it would be great if the community could cut steak and have matching cutlery for festivities and events the club hosts further down the track.”

Ordering the cutlery through restaurant Pipers of Penola, Ms Bowen said the set was carefully considered to accommodate the community by opting for arthritis-friendly items.

Club president Bryan Tomkin said the thoughtful donation was well accepted by fellow committee members.

“This donation will only enhance the experience for locals and visitors who dine at the hall on a regular basis,” he said.

“The new cutlery will go hand-in-hand with the planned renovations that are happening at the club.”

Mr Tonkin said the volunteer-run facility has had close to 70 bookings in the past year and was confident the strong support would continue in the future.

“We are planning a series of renovations for the centenary anniversary next year and the new cutlery set just tops this all off,” he said.

“We have recently secured a number of community grants and other bits and pieces which have been absolutely wonderful, with the idea to have all of the renovations completed by the anniversary date next year.”
