Butcher eyes slice of Millicent market

QUALITY CUTS: Luke and Laura Kompo.

AFTER five years without a stand-alone butcher shop, Luke and Laura Kompo have opened George Street Gourmet Meats in Millicent and are looking forward to selling quality cuts to customers.

“We’re focusing on quality meats from South Australia and we plan on supporting the locals where we can,” Ms Kompo said.

The couple originally owned a butcher’s shop in Kingston and Mr Kompo has not ruled out providing seafood in the future.

“We will definitely get the prawns out at Christmas and we will see what the demand is like moving forward,” Mr Kompo said.

The couple work in the shop together and are looking to move to Millicent in the next month for a fresh start.

“When the opportunity came up to get the building down here, we just went for it,” Mr Kompo said.

“It just came at the right time.”
