FOUR Nangwarry Primary School students have had a taste of being a teacher after jetting off on a once-in-a-lifetime trip earlier this year.

Joining 20 other students from Mount Burr and Glencoe, the group travelled to Sydney for Vivid, a photography experience focussed on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Each student was given a phone to document the experience and then taught how to use photo-editing software to tweak their images.

Over the course of the excursion, the students spent time snapping pictures around Circular Quay, the Vivid “digital playground” and Taronga Zoo.

Year 5 student Holly said spending time at the zoo was one of the highlights of the trip.

SHARING WISDOM: Nangwarry Primary School students Holly, Tanisha, Noah and Cameron were part of a 24-strong contingent of South East students who took part in Vivid Sydney. The group spent time learning photography and image editing techniques.

“We had a photography challenge where we had to go around and take photographs of big animals, animals with babies, water animals and things like that,” she said.

“It was hard trying to find them but it was really cool.

“The digital playground was also exciting and we all liked that.”

Since returning from their trip, the students have now been tasked with sharing what they learnt with their peers.

“We have been teaching the other kids in our class how to use the cameras and the editing program,” Year 7 student Tanisha said.

“We teach them how to take photographs and then show them the different things you can do on the app with them.

“Once we teach our class we will eventually teach the whole school, so we are hopeful everyone is excited about it.”

The students then want to enter their best photographs in South East competitions and promote their town.
