SINGING CHAMPION: Mount Gambier’s Maixence Williams has returned from the United States after competing in the vocals section of the World Championships of Performing Arts where she secured both a silver and bronze medal.

AN ASPIRING singer has returned from a United States performing arts competition with two medals for her efforts.

Mount Gambier singer Maixence Williams recently competed in a field of over 700 people at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Long Beach, California.

The 14-year-old was joined by over 20 fellow Australians, outshining some of her competition to secure both a silver and bronze in the vocal section.

Sharing the stage with singers from multiple countries, the young Mount Gambier student said the experience was one she would never forget.

“It was great meeting people from all around the world,” Maixence said.

Alongside the fun of competing, Maixence said the unique accommodation conditions – which saw the 700-strong contingent stay together – added to the atmosphere.

“It was good fun, but at the hotel all the contestants were staying at there were only about three working elevators,” she said.

“So there were long queues for that, but it gave us all a chance to mingle and meet each other.”

The young singer also managed to obtain private lessons from American singer-songwriter Romeo Johnson, who guided her to further hone her skills.

Maixence and her family extended their trip while in the country, visiting the Hollywood walk of fame with only one star in mind.

“The only star I wanted to get my photograph with was Christina Aguilera,” she said.

“Even though I want to sing more jazz and punk genres I am really into 90s rock at the moment, which is all thanks to mum because she listens to that all the time.”

As for the future, the young artist hopes to pursue a career in the industry but is yet to pinpoint her dream pathway.
