KANGAROO Inn Area School is getting behind the Envision Hands initiative by collecting bottle caps which are then donated to create prosthetic limbs and mobility aids for children in need.
“The bottle caps have filaments that can be used in 3D technology,” teacher Tom Davidson said.
“It’s making use of something that is not often recycled.”
Mr Davidson said the school places an emphasis on site sustainability and reusing and recycling, with an aim to have 5000 bottle caps by the end of week five of this term.
Envision Hands is working in conjunction with UniSA and rewarding the school which collects the most caps per capita with school resources.
“We’re hoping to get the community behind us,” Mr Davidson said.
Earlier this year Envision Hands surpassed one million bottle caps and have a new goal of two million bottle caps.
As well as schools, businesses and individuals are donating to the cause.
