THE Millicent Public Library has been abuzz this holiday break with a range of interactive activities as part of its popular school holiday program.

Children of young and old have been busy creating robotics, undertaking arts and crafts, playing with Lego and watching movies.

Wattle Range Council libraries manager Janice Nitschke said all activities had been well attended, with a large number of children attending the dress-up animal fun at the zoo, Lego and robotic programs.

“The winter activities are always very successful and there always seems to be a lot more people around,” she said.

“It is also great to see different children coming into the library because of some of our new activities, like the Lego and interactive escape room.

“It has been a real buzz and it is a real boost for the library, particularly my staff who put so much time into organising the activities.”

Ms Nitschke said high visitation numbers have continued from a successful summer period, with the council’s Photographic Competition and Exhibition pulling major numbers to the facility.

“The amount of people coming through the doors of the library has been phenomenal,” she said.

“From when we open at 9am to when we close, there is a constant stream of people visiting, using the internet, borrowing or coming to the photographic exhibition.

“We had 57 people visit the exhibition on Saturday which is just fantastic.”

Ms Nitschke said a record number of people have signed up for a library card.

“We are seeing a lot of people from Queensland and Adelaide who have moved to Millicent at the library,” she said.

“They are coming from areas which have great library facilities and they are very surprised when they come here and see the high level of quality we have here.

“There are a lot of families coming in and there is a great buzz around the place.”
