Forest sector awards to recognise leaders

Leonie Stapleton Lifetime Achievement Award TBW Newsgroup
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT: Timberlink Australia’s Leonie Stapleton was the winner of the inaugural Green Triangle Timber Industry Award lifetime contribution award. Nominations are now open for the 2019 awards.

AFTER the success of last year’s inaugural Green Triangle Timber Industry Awards, nominations are now open for the 2019 campaign.

The awards committee is calling for the forest industry to put forward those within the sector who show outstanding qualities, are significant mentors and are committed to the role they play.

More than 500 people attended The Barn last year to celebrate as Reid Logging claimed the top award along with the prize for harvesting excellence, with employee Adam Sealey winning the individual forest operations crown.

Timberlink Australia’s Leonie Stapleton was honoured with a lifetime contribution award, recognising her long-term commitment and involvement in an industry that has historically been male-dominated.

Green Triangle Timber Industry Awards chair Adrian Flowers is confident the sophomore event will be as successful as the first.

“We were very proud of the efforts of our industry last year to get this event up and going and to have support from our sponsors who serve our forestry industry across the Green Triangle Region so enthusiastic to be part of the campaign,” he said.

“We know there will be an even greater energy and support for nominations this year now that this sector has seen how the event can provide a platform for celebration.”

The 2019 event sees 14 categories ranging from excellence, safety, sawmilling and processing, harvesting and chipping, regional and community development, logistics and innovation.

A new category recognises excellence in businesses which offer services to the timber industry.

Eligible nominees include, but are not limited to, training organisations, information technology services, equipment suppliers, employment agencies and industry suppliers.

The nominees and winners will be celebrated at a formal dinner held at The Barn on November 1.

Comedian and well-known Australian media identity Merrick Watts will be master of ceremonies.

Visit gttia.com for more information or to nominate.

Entries close August 16.
