A NEW manager will be appointed to oversee the operations of the Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill due to the resignation of long-serving incumbent Scott Whicker.

He has worked at the plant since 1988 and been at the helm for the past 11 years.

The mill’s 400 employees were informed of his resignation on Wednesday and it takes effect on June 30.

“Mr Whicker is seeking a new direction for his career and – with a strong leadership team at the helm of the Millicent Mill – has decided it is the right time for both himself and the Millicent operation,” a company spokesperson said.

“An announcement on a replacement for Mr Whicker will be made in the near future.”

On behalf of the company, KCA supply chain director Geoff Walker thanked Mr Whicker for his many contributions to the company.

“He leaves a strong legacy at KCA, at Millicent Mill and the wider community,” Mr Walker said.

“We wish him all the best for his future endeavours.”

Mr Whicker joined KCA in 1988 as a supervisor at the Millicent Mill pulp mill, before progressing to process superintendent and onto a number of technical and supervisory roles.

Utilising his Honours degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Adelaide, he then completed a 12-month secondment to North America where he provided technical support.

In 1994, he returned to Millicent to the role of tissue manufacturing manager, which he held for the next five years.

From 2001 – 2006, he was the number five machine plans and operations team leader and during this time was involved in the design and start-up of new technologies and subsequent expansions.

In 2006, he moved to KCA’s headquarters in Sydney where he was technical and product and development manager for two years.

Then in 2008, Mr Whicker was promoted to Millicent Mill manager in succession to Ross Nugent.

Away from work, Mr Whicker is a board member of Regional Development Australia Limestone Coast and Group Training Employment and a trainer with the South Gambier Football Club and Western Border interleague team.
