Perry bats for Stand Like Stone

Kate Perry (2) TBW Newsgroup
HIT FOR SIX: Penola’s Kate Perry has been inundated with support during her Swinging with the Stars campaign with her final fundraiser coming to a close next week as she prepares to hit the stage on June 22.

THE dance floor and the cricket pitch could be described as polar opposites, but Penola’s Kate Perry has merged the two together to raise funds for Stand Like Stone.

As the Stand Like Stone Penola Coonawarra Sub Fund representative of this year’s Swinging with the Stars event, Ms Perry has hosted a range of fundraisers including an Amazing Race event, pop-up bar and a pizza night, but her last ditch effort to rake it in for the much-loved charity is something special.

Lucky enough to have a close family member involved with Cricket Australia, Ms Perry has been blessed with giving a lucky resident a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Ms Perry’s final fundraiser – a raffle – has three special prizes.

Third place will receive a cricket bat signed by the 2014 Australian Cricket Team and second place wins two general admission tickets for day one of the Adelaide test match and two tickets for day two, but the top prize is a cricket lover’s dream.

A cricket bat signed by the 2010 Australian Cricket Team plus four Boxing Day test match tickets are up for grabs for the lucky winner.

Grateful for the donation, Ms Perry said the prizes are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to her fundraising campaign.

“I have had so much support from everyone in the community already and there is still just over a week until the event,” she said.

“Everyone was amazing with my other fundraisers, they all helped wherever they could and went above and beyond.

“I have a bus of 55 people going to Mount Gambier for the event which is amazing – I just hope I can put on a great show for them.”

The group of eight dancers includes four men and four women from Mount Gambier to Kingston, all vying for the coveted title.

Ms Perry said although they are competing against one another, the rivalry is not there quite yet.

“I am so happy to have an amazing group of people to dance with,” she said.

“We all get together for dinner and catch ups and try to support each others fundraising when we can.

“It has been a fun experience so far so we are not too competitive just yet, but we will see what happens on the night.

“I am not doing it to win anyway, just to have a bit of fun and raise money for my wonderful community.”
