BE SAFE: Dawn Williams implored the community to take care on the road this long weekend.

RENDELSHAM resident Dawn Williams lived a parent’s worst nightmare twice when she lost both her daughter and son as a result of separate road crashes.

Leanne was killed after crashing into a tree at Claywells in 1993, and almost 15 years later Daryl died in a two-vehicle crash while travelling to Murray Bridge.

Ever since the tragedies that changed her life, Ms Williams has been vocal in promoting road safety as a member of The Road Trauma Support Team of South Australia.

Her plea with the community is no different this long weekened as she encourages people to be well prepared when they hit the road.

“Allow time to be able to drive responsibly, factoring in the road and weather conditions, be well rested and drug and alcohol free,” Ms Williams said.

She said no one can “turn back the hands of time” and change a tragedy.

“It only takes a split second for a tragic road crash to happen, and that split second can change the rest of your life,” she said.

“I hope everyone has a happy fun filled weekend and travels home responsibly.

“It is important we be aware of all road users, and ensure everyone gets home safely without any more tragedies on our roads.

“Too many tragic road crashes have happened already this year, drive safely.”
