PUNTERS are set to dress to the nines when the DiGiorgio Family Wines Apsley Cup hits the Edenhope Racecourse on Sunday.

The revitalised Fashions on the Field event is well known in the race circuit for its hotly contested competition, with a new category introduced this year.

Apsley participants are in the running for a $250 cash prize to put the focus on the women who regularly support the event.

“We wanted to make sure the locals who put in the effort to dress up for the races get recognised,” club manager Lisa Inkster said.

“The main prerequisite is that entrants must reside within a 50km radius of Apsley.

“We hope to see plenty of locals contest the prize.”

There is also prizes on offer for people’s choice, selected by members of the audience.

“People’s choice judges will be selected from the crowd on the day, so be sure to get a front row seat for a chance to have your say,” Ms Inkster.

Given the strength of wool growing in the district, the Apsley Racing Club will again run a best dressed in wool category, with Quality Wool awarding $500 to the winner, while the runner up will receive a MiniJumbuk prize pack.

The overall best dressed will win $750 and if previous years are any indication, it will be a hotly contested event.

Horsham resident and serious fashionista Belinda Nurse won last year’s best dressed category at the cup and will look to go back-to-back in 2019.

The runner up will receive an accommodation voucher for the Parkview Hotel in Melbourne.

Men and children are also encouraged dress up with $250 from the club for the best dressed man and a prize for all boys and girls who enter.
