State champ targets club for Stand Like Stone fundraiser

ON TARGET: Penola Swinging with the Stars participant Liz Rymill held a “come and try” day at the Mount Gambier Gun Club over the weekend raising a total of $400 for the cause.

A TOTAL of 38 “hot shots” spent their Mother’s Day shooting clay for state shooting champion Liz Rymill’s Let’s Go Clay Shooting Stand Like Stone fundraiser.

Part of Ms Rymill’s Swinging with the Stars campaign, the event raised $400 for the charity and was hailed a success by all in attendance.

With around 50 people taking part at the Mount Gambier Gun Club, Ms Rymill said it was a bigger event than anticipated.

“We hold come and try days annually but have never seen this amount of people join in,” she said.

“It was probably double what we have had for an event like this which is really exciting.

“I think being Mother’s Day we had a lot of mums and their families come out and give it a go.

“There were even a few who indicated they might come back again which is promising.”

Although everyone in attendance had little to no experience in shooting, Ms Rymill said everyone hit a target.

“We had three layouts on the day – skeet, trap and sport – so once people got set up they could go to any of the layouts and give them a try,” she said.

“There was such an amazing self-belief from the participants like they knew they could do it.

“It was great seeing their faces when they hit a target like they were all having an amazing time.”

In the lead up to next month’s Swinging with the Stars event, Ms Rymill will host another fundraiser on June 1 in conjunction with fellow dancer Elle Hood.

Bucks For Our Backyard will be hosted at the Coonawarra Hall from 4pm until 10pm with a night of live music and entertainment on offer.

There will be childcare on site with a range of different children’s events on offer including a jumping castle, games and an appearance from special guest George the Farmer.
