Real estate sales snapshot reveals solid start to year for Mount Gambier

MOUNT Gambier continues to hold the mantle as being in the top three regional centres in South Australia for house sales.

According to data released by the Real Estate Institute of SA, the median house price in the Blue Lake city for the first quarter of 2019 was $265,000.

The median price remain stable with only a 0.38pc change compared with 12 months ago.

Statistics show 94 houses in Mount Gambier were sold in the March quarter.

Regional centres that recorded the largest growth over the 12 month period were Port Augusta (36pc), Naracoorte (25pc) and Port Pirie, which recorded an upswing of 5pc.

“It is great news the median price result continues to hold its own this quarter,” REISA president Brett Roenfeldt said.

Traditionally, he said the numbers of sales were less in the first quarter of a year than in the last quarter.

“So this very slight decrease in sales numbers shows the continuing underlying strength of the regional real estate market,” Mr Roenfeldt said.

Top selling regional centres in terms of recorded sales over the 2019 March quarter were Victor Harbor, Mount Gambier and Murray Bridge.

Following the release of the Valuer-General’s median house prices for the March 2019 quarter, the statewide regional housing market recorded a median house value of $272,000.

This represents a decrease of 1.09pc from the previous quarter but a significant increase of 0.74pc from the same quarter last year.

Sales were only slightly down this quarter with only seven less houses sold than the preceding quarter last year.
