COONAWARRA wineries banded together to combat homelessness on the weekend for the annual homeless grapes pick.

ac.care senior manager of homelessness and community services Trish Spark said the turn out for the event was “fantastic”.

“These projects are very important to agencies like ours,” she said.

In the last financial year, we saw 520 people through our services and that included young people as well as families.

“There are a large amount of people that we deal with in regards to homelessness.

“A lot of people just need a place to go or someone to talk to because they feel a bit lonely and disincluded.”
Participants started at Raidis Estate at 10am, before moving to Hollick Estate as well as Patrick of Coonawarra.

The event, now in its second year, sees volunteers pick grapes which are then made into wine for the following year.
All proceeds from the sales are then donated to ac.care.

With six wineries included in the annual event, Radis Estate’s Emma Raidis announced last year’s batch would be released in August this year.

Hollick Estates, Raidis Estate, Patrick of Coonawarra, Penley Estate, Redman Wines and Jim Brand Wines participated in the event with winemakers also joining the cause.
