THE Blue Lake city hosted a whirlwind visit by Industry and Skills Minister David Pisoni last week.

Mr Pisoni toured Mount Gambier High School’s automotive facility and met with students studying their VET automotive course which is facilitated by TAFE SA.

Following the tour, Mr Pisoni spoke about the value of apprenticeships and traineeships, while highlighting the government’s Skilling South Australia program.

He explained the opportunities for school students to undertake flexible apprenticeships combined with their South Australian Certificate of Education.

“I thank the students and teachers at Mount Gambier High School for providing an opportunity to discuss with them skilled careers and the benefits of choosing a career in trade and other vocational pathways, with many of these students already on a VET pathway,” Mr Pisoni said.

“It was certainly exciting to speak to those who will make up some of South Australia’s future skilled workforce.”

Senior school assistant principal Samantha Brown said it was a great chance for students to hear Mr Pisoni’s journey as an apprentice and ultimately owning his own business before entering politics.

“It was a good example of showing how one pathway can lead to many possibilities,” she said.
