A MOTORCYCLIST was airlifted by helicopter to hospital in Adelaide with serious injuries after falling from his vehicle in Canunda National Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Medstar chopper was summoned to an area of sandhills west of Millicent after SA Ambulance Service crews determined the 27-year-old Mount Gambier man was suffering from chest and spinal injuries as well as lower limb fractures.

The man was riding in a group of three and the alarm was raised just after 1pm.

SA Ambulance Service regional operations manager Andrew Thomas said the Millicent station sent a paramedic crew including an intensive care paramedic to the crash site.

Mr Thomas said personnel started treating the man for his injuries.

“Due to the nature of access to the area which required four-wheel drive vehicles, it was decided to summon the Medstar retrieval helicopter from Adelaide so the man could receive further treatment,” Mr Thomas said.

“The Medstar personnel continued the treatment at the scene.

“Local State Emergency Service, police and County Fires Service personnel were also present.”
