WHILE most eyes will be on the racetrack at South Australia’s richest country race meet on Sunday, the stakes will also be high when it comes to fashion.
Hundreds of punters are expected to grace the Penola Racecourse for the 3MP Millicent Cup, where the best of the Limestone Coast’s style will be on display.
In the main fashion at the races event, entrants will take to the turf and battle it out for best dressed.
Organiser Helen Varcoe said as the competition heads into a cooler autumn she expected to see a number of popular racing fashion trends hit the catwalk.
“Some of the popular trends around are definitely pant suits,” she said.
“Animal print is everywhere at the moment, flowing florals as well as hats have made a comeback and boaters and berets are still a popular choice.
“Bows are a big trend this year as well whether worn incorporated on a dress or in your hair or accessories.”
The fashion categories in this year’s event are best dressed and runner-up best dressed, best footwear, best millinery and the top 10 finalists for the ladies.
Meanwhile, there will also be a men’s fashion winner and runner-up, best dressed couple, teens and children’s fashion.
There are some big prizes up for grabs in the competition with the best dressed female taking home a $1000 cash prize, among other incentives.
The best dressed male will receive a $100 Shoe Shed voucher, a pair of Rossi boots prize pack.
Both winners will qualify for the statewide fashions at the races final to be judged in September.
The runner-up best dressed female will receive a $200 voucher, while awards will be given for best millinery, best footwear and to all finalists.
The runner-up best dressed male will win a $100 voucher, the couple’s prize is an indulgence accommodation package plus vouchers and a wine pack.
Children and teen’s vouchers are up for grabs as well as cash prizes.
Given the tough task of judging this year’s event will be the 2018 state winner from Warrnambool, Leah Habel, alongside Justin Kain from Penola and a representative from The Races South Australia.
Gates open for the 3MP Millicent Cup at 10am and general admission tickets are $15, while concession is $10.
There will be live music and a kids bouncing castle providing entertainment throughout the day.
