A GROUP of South East “celebrities” will take the stage at this year’s Swinging with the Stars fundraising event with a couple of familiar Penola faces among the mix.
With Kate Perry announced as the Stand Like Stone Penola Coonawarra Sub Fund nominee last week, the cellar door manager has now been joined by another “hometown hero”.
South Australian clay shooting champion and Penola farmer Liz Rymill was yesterday announced among the other dance “stars” in the community-based charity event.
“There is a bit of fancy footwork that goes on in the sheep yards and on the farm but that is really the extent of it,” an excited Ms Rymill said.
“I think there is no more supportive communities than those that are in the Limestone Coast so I really expect that we will all get in on the spirit of it and have a lot of fun.
“I think we have some excellent dance teachers so we are in capable hands as well.”
Joining Ms Perry and Ms Rymill are a host of other South East Stars.
Padthaway farmer and footballer Andrew Orton – “world’s worst dancer” according to his friends – St Anthony’s teacher Rob Francis, Kingston Community School teacher Bryce Smith, Millicent North Primary School teacher Emma Laucirica, midwife Elle Hood and 2018 ARIA award winner and Grant High School teacher Scott Maxwell will step out of their comfort zones and showcase their skills at the annual event.
All funds raised for Stand Like Stone are held in trust for the benefit of the region and the interest earned is granted back to the local community through scholarships and grants for charitable projects.
Since its establishment in 2004, Stand Like Stone has distributed over $1.3m to charitable projects, school students and educational scholarships, benefitting Limestone Coast communities.
Swinging with the Stars has raised over $617,000 for the region and continues to be a sought after event on the Limestone Coast calendar.
A sell-out event most years, organisers are confident 2019 will be no different.
Held at the Barn Palais on June 22, the community is encouraged to head to Chapman’s Newsagency in May to secure their tickets.
