AFTER almost three years away from the Penola shopping strip, Never Too Old has reopened its doors to the public.
Opening next to Koonara on Church Street, the iconic antique business is back in full swing.
Business owners Terry and Loretta Sims closed the doors to the eclectic shop in June 2016, but after some time away on semi-retirement, the couple missed having a presence in the town’s retail sector.
Purchasing the current building – previously a supermarket before becoming a retail space for pop-up stores – the pair renovated the site, repainting the walls and giving the space a full face lift.
Before the previous store closed, the business sold antiques and collectibles for over 20 years, a passion the Sims could not walk away from.
“We have always had an interest in Charlick’s Bazaar in Mount Gambier, so we continued to have our stall through there,” Ms Sims said.
“But it is really lovely to now have a shop front again after a bit of time away.”
Boasting a much larger space than the previous store, the new shop front is home to an array of antique goods.
Customers can expect everything they were able to purchase before the closure, with the added bonus of new and exciting goods.
In addition to the sales floor, the shop is still developing and will eventually house a book room/library and The Shed – a man cave area for all the “rusty” items.
Although the store is still a work in progress, it is now open to the public and will trade every Thursday to Sunday from 10am until 5pm.
The couple also hosted a grand opening night at the start of the month which was well attended.
“During our opening night we had a lot of positive feedback from the community about how much they had missed the store in town,” Mr Sims said.
“We were blown away with how many people showed up for the event and how much support we received.
“A special thanks must go out to Dru Reschke from Koonara, they were an amazing help on the night and provided great service with their wines to our guests.
“We also would not have been able to open our new store without the support of Vicki Osborne, she has been instrumental in the opening and we cannot thank her enough.
“Our family and friends have also been of huge support during this time and we are grateful for everyone who has helped in the reopening.
“It was nice to know we were missed and we hope the community continues to support us in this new shop.”
